Changes!

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."
I Peter 2:9

Okay, so maybe it's a bit of a stretch...but it was definitely time for me to update my poor neglected blog and revive it with some much needed color. (Thanks especially to Lydia for pointing this out to me - in the kindest way possible, of course. :-) )

I spent some time reorganizing the side bar as well and am open to any comments or suggestions in regard to the whole look and layout of the page.

I have always appreciated this quote:

"Every man's work, whether it be literature, or music, or pictures, or architecture, or anything else, is always a portrait of himself."

As one who does a fair amount of design work, I can testify to the importance of even the individual elements in design to support the desired message. Elements such as color, form, space, layout and others will either contribute to, or detract from, the effectiveness of the message. As Christians who have, indeed, been called "out of darkness into his marvelous light," let us always be considering how we can best reflect God's light and glory to a dark world!

WOW, Natalie!!! I just love your new blog layout and color scheme. It is definitely YOU. It reminded me of the bright, cheery colors that adorn the piano studio walls to welcome your many students. I also like your aliteration with the P's for the organizational format on the sidebar. It really makes me want to check out your blog more in depth.

I have to say that you have inspired me to change my blog layout and colors. I have wanted to for quite awhile and played around with some color schemes but never made any final changes. Josh said it would be easier for me to completely design my own blog layout than making changes to the blogger template. That's why I haven't done anything. I have the same boring pinks and canned layout. I have to ask you, how did you do it??? Do you need to know lots of programming and computer languages? Those are some skills I do not possess. I can only fiddle around with a little HTML for tags and links *sigh*.

Can I make one small suggestion?
You need to post more often! Well, so do I though. I should heed my own suggestion. :) Thirteen days is entirely too long to go without posting unless you have a really good reason. Something like entirely redesigning your blog. :)

I'm glad your still around "the neighborhood". I look forward to more creative, clever, and "colorful" posts from you.

Love your colors, Natalie!! I just recently updated my blog colors and design too... (Wow, it looks like we're all in a change mode, eh? ;)

Amyway, I really like what you've done! You always do a wonderful job at design work...

Love ya!

Fun redesign! I love the colors and the header graphic.
Thanks for adding me to your links, too.
The only improvement I could suggest is that the sidebar is showing up at the bottom of the page for me, not on the side where it should. It could just be my browser or something, though.

Hey Lydia!
Thanks! I'm glad you like it. Josh really said that? I'm sure what he meant to say was that it would be easier for him to completely design his own layout than make changes to the template. ;-) I wouldn't even know where to begin if I were to try to completely design my own template. I'm still using the same template as before and just changed the CSS. I have some books on different coding languages that I've gone through, or read bits and pieces of, so those were handy to use as a reference for some of the tags. I also look at other pages source code all the time and occasionally stea...uh, I mean incorporate, other people's code and ideas into my own layout. If you go to the "view source" on any page, you should be able to familiarize yourself with the different tags and coding specifications you have to use for each tag.
Thanks for your posting suggestion. I would like to post more frequently. I'll try to work on that. :-)

Myklin~
I saw your new layout - I love the rose picture at the top! One thing about yours that's a little weird (I think) is that since the text in your posts is white, when it comes through my reader, I can never read it, since my reader has a white background. So, I have to highlight it in order for the text to be readable. Anyway...not sure if this is an issue for anyone else, but if there was a way to use black text for your posts that might be nice...

Natalie~
What browser are you using? I'm not sure exactly what causes the sidebar to do that - it shows up fine for me (in Firefox). If it's a fixed positioning, then wouldn't it be consistent across browsers? I'll have to look at the code and see...let me know if you have any suggestions. I know you're familiar with some of the coding languages.

I'm using Internet Explorer.

I'd guess that the fix is probably in the Page Structure area of your template... but off the top of my head I can't think what could be doing it.

As an added curiosity, it doesn't do it on the post pages, just on the main blog....how odd! :-)

Okay, Natalie, here's the solution. You just need to go get Firefox. ;-)
Seriously, you should check it out. Once you use it, you won't want to revert back to any others...

That is very odd! I looked at the code, but I really have no idea how to go about addressing that problem. Heh, maybe if I just ignore it, it will eventually fix itself. :-)
