The PUZZLEMAKER: discovering the art of patterns (2024-2025)

Have you ever experienced the satisfaction of locating just the right puzzle piece to form the next part of the picture? Music is like a puzzle, with parts like rhythm and pitch and movement comprising the whole. With a relatively small variety of note values we can create thousands of rhythmic combinations. With only twelve distinct pitches on the piano keyboard we can form dozens of scales and compose millions of melodies. With just ten fingers, we can play music ranging from the simplicity of Mary Had a Little Lamb to the complexity of a Beethoven concerto. Each of these parts is essential for creating a beautiful and artistic whole, just like a puzzle. The PUZZLEMAKER: discovering the art of patterns is a practice incentive theme that will have students learning and mastering rhythm patterns, pitch patterns, and movement patterns to become excellent pianists. Along the way they’ll be collecting one puzzle piece at a time until they have acquired all the pieces they need to complete a beautiful puzzle!
